Navezuelas urban fossil trail

Geoparque Villuercas > Navezuelas urban fossil trail

On this route, you can discover the main urban fossils of Navezuelas. It begins at Plaza España and ends on Calle Francisco Pizarro.

If you examine the building facades, you will notice that some are covered with fragments of very hard, durable rock composed primarily of quartz (orthoquartzitic sandstone). These rocks contain imprints or traces left by various organisms, known as ichnofossils.

The structures you will see here were formed approximately 475 million years ago by organisms such as trilobites or worms. At that time, this area was submerged beneath the sea.

We invite you to discover the “urban fossils” of the Villuercas-Ibores-Jara UNESCO Global Geopark by following this route!
