Local produce – Honey

Honey bearing the “Miel Villuercas-Ibores” Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) is a natural product made by *Apis mellifera* bees from flower nectar or secretions from living plant parts (or found upon them). The bees gather, transform, and combine these materials with specific substances of their own, storing and allowing them to mature within the hive’s honeycombs.

“Miel Villuercas-Ibores” honeys must be free from inorganic or organic substances foreign to their composition. They must originate exclusively from hives listed in the registry of apiaries for the “Miel Villuercas-Ibores” Protected Designation of Origin.
Beyond its nutritional quality, “Miel Villuercas-Ibores” PDO honey officially attests to the unique character of these honeys—a product of soil, climate, water, and flora that combine and balance in a way found nowhere else.

Melissopalynological analyses conducted at the request of the Regulatory Council have shown that “Miel Villuercas-Ibores” honeys originate from cork oak, *Argamula* (rock-rose), heather, French lavender, *Carquesa* (broom), chestnut, holm oak, hawthorn, asphodel, *Jaguarzo* (rock-rose), cistus, *Querihuela* (rock-rose), *Quirola* (rock-rose), mastic, strawberry tree, *Melera* (spurge), *Olivillo* (mock privet), oregano, broom, oak, willow, *Torvisca* (spurge flax), blackberry, and other wild and cultivated plants of the region.
Visited by bees during their various flowering seasons, these plants impart the flavors, aromas, and colors that distinguish and elevate this wholesome, sweet product.
