Geocentres is the name of the educational project of the Villuercas-Ibores-Jara Geopark. It is a project of educational intervention involving all the centres in the territory; its objective is to increase the knowledge of the geological, natural, and cultural heritage of Villuercas-Ibores-Jara in the field of education. There is no doubt that the incorporation of this knowledge will contribute towards the preservation of this heritage by society starting with schoolchildren.
Geocentros is a joint initiative of the Ministry of Education of the Regional Government of Extremadura, Cáceres County Council, and the University of Extremadura. The educational institutions which take part in the project are: Rural Group Centres, Centres of Infant and Primary Education, School of Secondary Education, Centres for Continuing Adult Education, and the Teachers’ and Resources Centres of Trujillo and Navalmoral de la Mata.
The Geocentros project considers the Geopark to be a great experimental classroom which allows the having and exchanging of experiences and assessment and cooperation between the centres. Information and communication technologies are key tools in tackling this project.
